16th Century Château Favored By Henry IV Sold To Chinese Buyer, Site Unseen, Within A Week

Would Henry IV, King of England and Lord of Ireland (circa 1399-1413) have ever imagined that one of the castles he frequently visited would transfer ownership from European royalty to an investor from the Far East? Further, would anyone have ever imagined that a multimillion dollar castle would sell to a winning bidder through an online auction, and in this case, site unseen?

This past fall, the above became a reality as a Troubadour-style, 16th century castle sold through New York-based real estate marketplace, Concierge Auctions, within a week. Originally listed at $9 million, the estate – considered “one of the most incredible slices of France” – sold without reserve to a lucky Chinese buyer.

Comprised of 33,000 square feet including 20 bedrooms, the castle – known as Château Charbonnières – features fine 16th century architecture, an original 18th century kitchen and modern-day amenities. The estate had been meticulously restored and modernized in 2010 to provide the comforts any modern-day person requires, and now includes a cinema room, conference space and home gym. Situated in the Perche National Park on the edge of the Loire Valley, just over an hour from Paris, the estate offers access to nearby farmland, vineyards, equestrian activities and popular tourist destinations such as the Chartres Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Additional accommodations on the estate include a caretaker’s house, parking and stables, with an orangery and greenhouse. Château Charbonnières also boasts manicured gardens, meadows, a private lake and waterfall, and a river offering excellent private fishing.

The key element that enabled this remarkable international real estate transaction was Concierge Auctions’ online bidding application, which has revolutionized the sale process for some of the world’s finest properties by allowing buyers to participate in the auction in real-time from anywhere in the world. The sale of Château Charbonnières is a prime example of the company’s abilities and success for this kind of global reach. Further, as the property was sold to a Chinese buyer site unseen, the sale signifies that foreign buyers are willing to conduct an international search to purchase unique and high quality real estate properties. In the current global economic climate, these Chinese real estate buyers and investors are at the forefront of purchasing a dream home, and are willing to go to great lengths to solidify a sale.

Concierge Auctions serves these high-net-worth individuals internationally, providing an accelerated solution that obtains fair market value for one-of-a-kind real estate assets, inviting qualified bidders to compete in a transparent forum. Since the firm’s founding in 2008, Concierge Auctions has generated over $1.5 billion in luxury properties, with the typical sale ranging between $2.5 and $20 million, and is active in 38 U.S. states/territories and 18 countries. The company has received numerous industry awards including being named as one of America’s fastest-growing companies by Inc. Magazine for the past four years, and the prestigious “Best Overall Marketing” award from Who’s Who in Luxury Real Estate.

Please noteTHE NEXT ROUND OF AUCTIONS WILL TAKE PLACE THIS DECEMBER 2017, FROM THE 13 THROUGH THE 20.
